Next Generation Youth BMX Jam at the Wheelmill
The Next Generation Youth BMX Jam, which took place on March 8, was a simply awesome event that showed what a killer future BMX has. Young BMX riders travelled for hundreds of miles to shred with other BMXers and participate in the jam at the Wheelmill bike park in Pittsburg. The Wheelmill, with its friendly staff, was a perfect location, with terrain for all levels of rider. The Halahan family – a super rad BMX family from Pittsburgh – organized the event, a first of its kind and we’re sure there are going to be many more of these. While the emphasis was more about having fun than winning, there were some awards, such as; “heavy hitter”, “fastest tire change”, and “littlest shredder”. Prizes were also awarded at the best trick contest, style cat jam, pump track time trials and more.
From smaller shredders like 5 year old Beau Baker, to 15 year olds that are thinking about pro class, everyone had a good time.
In between events the riding never stopped. There was always a constant flow of radness from these young shredders.
During the “Style Cat” jam, the level of riding, style and consistency was mind blowing. Every single rider was having a blast.
The final event before the awards ceremony was a pro demo by Chris Doyle and a number of others, making an awesome end to a killer day.
Sunday Bikes had generously donated a 16″ and an 18″ primer BMX, which were raffled off at the end of the day during the awards ceremony.
Lukas and Nathan Halahan handed out the awards. Thanks to all who made the jam possible and the many companies that donated prizes. Sponsors were: Shadow Conspiracy, Subrosa, G-Form, Sunday, Odyssey, Kid Dynamite, Profile, Deek, Jaunt, and The Wheelmill. Everyone went home pumped! The future of BMX is looking good!
